
ORIGIN AND IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY BOOTS Did you know the origin of the word Sabotage? Hmmm! Okay, I’ll tell you. Sometimes in the 20 th century, there was a need for protective boots when industrial safety issues were being addressed. Hence, wooden boots were made which were called ‘sabots’ . The sabot is a simple shoe, shaped and hallowed from a single block of wood. It was traditionally worn by French and Breton peasants; it protected workers from falling objects. It also protected farmers on the field from sharp objects and protected the toes in case a horse or cow stepped on them. However, during the early industrial revolution, workers used sabots to destroy machinery by throwing them into the gears of factories to stop production.
