PRECAUTIONARY SAFETY TIPS FOR BOMB BLASTS
After recent tragic events at the Boston Marathon, the most recent reports are that at least
three people were killed and over 170 people treated for injuries after two
pressure-cooker bomb blasts at the finish line.
The FBI has now taken
over the investigation and President Barack Obama said officials do not yet
know whether the bombs were the work of a terrorist group or “a malevolent
individual.” There is not currently anyone in custody in connection with the
attacks.
Officials across the
U.S. are on heightened security, as is the UK in preparation for the London
Marathon scheduled for this Sunday.
With tensions running
high across the nation, now seems like an opportune time to share the following
bomb blast precautionary safety tips.
In Preparation:
·
Always be aware of
your surroundings, especially when in large crowds. Take note of where
emergency exits and staircases are located, and any fire extinguishers or
safety equipment
·
When you enter an
area, notice any heavy objects that could break in an explosion and plan how
you would leave if needed
·
Take precautions when
traveling: never accept packages from strangers or leave luggage unattended.
Any unusual behavior should be reported to the police or security personnel
·
If you feel
uncomfortable or think someone is going to set off a bomb leave the area
immediately and call 911. Remember: If You See Something, Say
Something

emergency plan in place: http://www.safetyzone-ng.com/
During an Evacuation:
·
Walk out of the
building in an orderly manner and avoid using elevators
·
Head directly to the
pre-determined point and await instructions
During an Attack:
·
Stay calm, get down on
the ground and seek cover under a solid object if possible. Wait for 30 seconds
to one minute for any potential secondary explosions, and then leave the area
immediately
·
Keep away from
damaged buildings to avoid falling debris and avoid vehicles that might contain
further explosives
·
In the event of a
out-of-control crowd situation, move towards a wall and stay there until the
crowd dispels or you find a better exit
·
Listen to and assist
first responders
·
If you are able, help
others who are hurt or need assistance
After an Attack:
·
Follow directions from
first responders and assist if needed
·
Follow your personal
emergency disaster plan and avoid crowds
·
Listen to your radio
for updated news and emergency instructions
·
Use text messaging for
communication, rather than phone calls, to spare overloaded voice networks
